A new report from Adecco, which presents an analysis of salary trends for the various roles within the Information Technology (IT) sector, reveals that the demand for specialized talent remains solid, which is reflected in competitive salaries to attract and retain the best professionals.

To the higher paying rolesfor professionals with a level of experience between 2 and 5 years, include Cloud Architect Engineer (45,000 and 60,000 euros), followed by System Engineer (36,000 and 46,000 euros), Pentester (35,000 and 50,000 euros), Cybersecurity Engineer (35,000 to 50,000 euros), and Software Engineer (28,000 and 44,000 euros).

On the other hand, the least paid positions for professionals with a similar level of experience include computer scientist (17,000 to 27,000 euros), Network Support Technician (18,000 and 24,000 euros), Software Analyst (21,000 to 31,000 euros), ERP/SCM/CRM Consultant (26,000 and 40,000 euros), and Database Administrator (28,000 and 40,000 euros).

According to information shared by Adecco, Cities such as Lisbon, Porto, Braga and Coimbra continue to be the main hiring hubs in the IT area in Portugal.

Bernardo Samuel, Recruitment Director at Adecco cited in a statement, states that “despite a slowdown in hiring technological profiles throughout 2023, the sector remains extremely competitive in attracting the best talent, showing a continuous trend of growth in average salaries”.

By 2024 it is expected that “salary progression continues its upward trajectory, with average increases potentially exceeding 10%”indicates the person responsible.

The salary discrepancies found between different positions “reflect not only the variation in responsibility and complexity associated with each function, but also market demand and talent shortages in specific areas, such as cybersecurity and cloud computing”, says Bernardo Samuel.

According to Adecco, the IT job market is increasingly valuing professionals who are capable of mastering the technical aspects of their functions and who align with the companies’ mission and values.

In addition to the more technical capabilities, The skills most valued by companies in the IT sector include autonomy, team spirit, leadership, communication skills and identification with the project in question.

Organizations also value professionals who get involved with teams, who know how to deal with customers and are capable of managing projects and presenting innovative solutions.

Salary conditions play a preponderant role when it comes to compensation for IT profiles, but the report notes a growing trend in valuing other benefits that contribute to employee satisfaction and well-being and which are seen as determining factors for attracting talent.

These include the possibility of have a career development plan and opportunities offered by the company. Identification with the company’s mission and values ​​also stands out, as does flexible working hours and the remote work model.

Additional benefits like health insurance for the employee and his family, well-being policies and variable compensation based on results achieved are also valued.
