A Forbes magazine published the list of billionaires for 2024, which only includes one Portuguese name. This is Maria Fernanda Amorim, whose fortune is valued at 5.3 billion euros, currently in 522nd place.

The 89-year-old Portuguese billionaire – and her three daughters Paula, Marta and Luísa – rose 45 places on the list of the richest in the world. Last year it occupied 567th place in the ranking and, in 2022, it was in 601st position.

Fernanda Amorim inherited the fortune from her husband Américo Amorim, who died in July 2017. The origin of the fortune was Corticeira Amorim and Irmãos, founded in Mozelos, Santa Maria da Feira. Furthermore, Forbes highlights, it invested in the energy sectors and banks in several countries.

“Américo Amorim’s heiresses also have an important stake in Galp, the largest Portuguese company, valued by the market at more than 11.3 billion euros”, Forbes also reveals, clarifying that Paula Amorim, the oldest of the three sisters, is president of the Board of Directors of Galp and her sister Marta is a non-executive member of the company.

The heiress of the Amorim empire is present for the sixth time in this classification.

Maria Fernanda Amorim rose seven positions in the ranking from 2020 to 2021, rose 34 places again from 2022 to 2023 and now ‘jumps’ another 45 steps in the prestigious list. This means that, in four years, the Amorim family rose 86 places in the Forbes ranking.
