Baby bottle

A four-month-old baby was left in an alcoholic coma after his grandmother used wine to dilute the newborn’s powdered milk, in Italy, reveals the local press.

The woman apparently mistook a bottle of wine for a dark flask of water when she was preparing the milk.

The grandmother, from Francavilla Fontana, in the province of Brindisi, in southern Italy, gave the mixture to the baby late Monday morning. The newborn drank some of the wine before rejecting the bottle.

The family member realized her mistake when she smelled the drink. Upon realizing the mistake, she immediately took her grandson to the hospital. The boy was intubated and admitted to intensive care at the hospital unit. His life is not at risk.

The local prosecutor has been notified of the case and is investigating medical files to determine whether a criminal investigation will be opened.

The police are also aware of the case.
