First Airbus A380 from British newcomer Global Airlines arrives in the United Kingdom

The first Airbus A380 for new British carrier Global Airlines arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday at Prestwick Airport in Scotland. The aircraft flew there from Montreal from the Mojave Desert in the United States, where it had been stored and spent the last few weeks being prepared for reuse.

The aircraft in question is the 9H-GLOBL, an eleven-year-old plane that flew for China Southern Airlines until 2022. It was parked in the Mojave Desert later that year. In recent weeks, a team from the Portuguese HiFly prepared the Airbus to fly again, still carrying the Chinese company’s colors.

The start date for Global Airlines’ commercial operations is not yet clear. A startup by entrepreneur James Asquith intends to fly used A380s between London and the United States, aiming to revive the “golden heyday of aviation” in terms of luxury. New York should be the first destination.
