The tablet market is recovering! Thanks to these two Chinese brands

After two years in freefall, the tablet market is starting to show signs of recovery. According to IDC, there was a 0.5% increase in global shipments in the first quarter of 2024, with a total of 30.8 million units.

 

Tablet market shows improvements

This is the first time since 2021 showing signs of improvementwith IDC suggesting that the data coincides with the beginning of an update cycle.

Apple has suffered a lot in 2024 in terms of year-over-year growth. The company continues to sell the most tablets in the world thanks to the popularity of the iPad, but annual growth has slowed by 8.5%. Despite that, managed to sell 9.9 million unitswhich represents a market share of 32%.

Samsung follows, with a market share of 21.7% and an annual decline of 5.8%. The company has been discreet about launches during the end of 2023 and the beginning of this year.

Huawei and Xiaomi had spectacular annual growth

With Apple and Samsung in “decline” in the tablet market, Chinese brands are rubbing their hands. Huawei remained in third place, but had annual growth of 43.6%, a value that allowed it to increase its market share by 2.8 points. The same happens with Xiaomi, which is recording even better numbers.

The Chinese brand saw a 92.6% year-over-year increase in shipments, although its market share with its fifth place position is just 5.9%. Lenovo also grewwith an annual increase of 13.2% and occupying fourth place in the table, ahead of Xiaomi.

IDC analysts say the trend will remain stable throughout the year, although it may not be enough to revitalize the market. The boost of mobile phones in recent years and the competition with PCs they are leaving tablets in a no man's land.
