What are the mandatory lights in cars?

Cars are equipped with various types of lights! There are road lights, reversing lights, turn signals, fog lights, among others. Depending on the situation, the driver must use the appropriate lights.

 

Did you know, for example, that “high beams” are intended to illuminate the road in front of the vehicle for a distance of no less than 100 m?

Article 60 — use of lights

Anyone who has read and studied the highway code will certainly know that the use of lights is also part of the law. Article 60 — use of lights, indicates the lighting devices to be used by drivers.

These lighting devices include:

  • a) Main beam (high beam)intended to illuminate the road in front of the vehicle for a distance of not less than 100 m;
  • b) Dipped beam light (dipped beam)designed to illuminate the road in front of the vehicle for a distance of up to 30 m;
  • c) Front fog lightdesigned to improve road lighting in the event of fog or other situations of reduced visibility;
  • d) Reversing lightintended to illuminate the road to the rear of the vehicle and warn other users that the vehicle is reversing or is about to reverse.

2 – The light signaling devices to be used by drivers are the following:

  • a) Parking lightsintended to indicate the presence and width of the vehicle, when viewed from the front and rear, with those at the front being designated “minimum”;
  • b) Turn signal lightintended to indicate to other users the intention to change direction;
  • c) Hazard warning lightsdesigned to signal that the vehicle represents a special danger to other users and consisting of the simultaneous operation of all direction indicators;
  • d) Brake light, intended to indicate to other users the activation of the service brake;
  • e) Rear fog lightdesigned to make the vehicle more visible in the case of intense fog or other situations where visibility is significantly reduced
