Autoeuropa resorts to ‘lay-off’ to restructure the factory, CT refuses salary cuts

Autoeuropa’s CT said in the statement that, “in the context in which this ‘lay-off’ applies, it will not accept any salary cuts for workers”.

The Autoeuropa Workers’ Committee revealed this Thursday that the company’s management will make temporary stoppages in June and July, due to a restructuring for the decarbonization of the factory, but warns that it will not accept wage penalties for workers.

According to an internal statement released today by the Workers’ Committee (CT) of the Volkswagen car factory, in Palmela, in the district of Setúbal, the company, as determined by current legislation, informed today that it intends to start conversations for the application next week lay-off over a period of eight days in June and 13 days in July.

Autoeuropa’s CT said in the statement that, “in the context in which this ‘lay-off’ applies, it will not accept any salary cuts for workers”.

Contacted by the Lusa agency, the CT coordinator, Rogério Nogueira, highlights that the application of the ‘lay-off’ “results from a context of investment and restructuring of the factory, not from any unforeseen situation, such as the one that occurred last year due to problems with a supplier in Slovenia”.

“This is a very different situation to what happened last year, in which Autoeuropa had to stop for several weeks due to the lack of a part for the T-Roc engine produced in a factory in Slovenia, which was strongly affected by the floods that occurred in that country in August last year”, he said.

“In this context, [de reestruturação da fábrica], there is no reason to cut workers’ wages. And this is what the CT will defend in next week’s meetings”, highlighted Rogério Nogueira.

Administration highlights investment to prepare factory for new model

In a statement sent to newsrooms, Autoeuropa’s management emphasizes that “these stoppages will affect all areas of the factory, in order to prepare it for the production of the new model”.

The administration also highlights that “ongoing investments will be essential for the production of future models, as well as for the decarbonization of Volkswagen Autoeuropa, with a view to reducing its environmental impact, technological adaptation and compliance with environmental standards”.
