It took a while to wait, but good news has arrived for fans of the “Peaky Blinders” series.

It was in January 2021 that there was bad news and good news: the BBC announced that the sixth season would be the last of the popular British drama and the creator indicated that the story would “continue in another form”.

Now, Steven Knight has revealed that Cillian Murphy, who won the Oscar for Best Actor for “Oppenheimer” on March 10, will once again play criminal leader Tommy Shelby in a film that is well advanced, with a shooting date already scheduled.

“No doubt he’ll be back for that. We’ll be filming in September, near Digbeth [a zona central de Birmingham]”, he told Birmingham World (quoted by The Hollywood Reporter) on the red carpet at the premiere of “The Town”, a new drama series he created for the BBC.

Two years ago, the creator of the series said that the story would take place during the Second World War.

Airing between 2013 and 2022, the series about a post-World War I Birmingham gang in 1919, before later moving on to 1925, 1929 and finally 1933, began on the more low-key BBC Two before moving to BBC One. However, international popularity exploded when it became available on Netflix.

It is not known whether the platform is involved in the new project and whether it is intended for the big screen.
