Daniel Alves leaves prison in Spain
According to the Mexican channel “TUDN”, Dutch striker Memphis Depay, from Atlético de Madrid, is part of the group that helped Daniel Alves. The two played together in the Brazilian full-back’s second spell at Barcelona, in the 2021/22 season.
Therefore, the athlete had to resort to other means to raise the money needed for his release. According to the La Vanguardia, Daniel Alves’ defense obtained the amount through non-bank loans – a group of friends provided the money. Lawyer Inés Guardiola used as a guarantee the 6.8 million euros (R$36.6 million) that the player has to receive from the Spanish tax authorities.
Convicted of rape, Daniel Alves pays bail and leaves prison in Spain
Daniel Alves also had values blocked in Spain since the rape accusation. During the trial, Inés Guardiola, the player’s lawyer, stated that the Brazilian had a debt of 500 thousand euros (R$2.7 million) with the Spanish Ministry of Finance and two accounts in the country, one with 50 thousand euros (R$ $272 thousand) and another with a negative balance of 20 thousand euros (R$109 thousand).
Money receivable from the Spanish tax authorities
On the same day that Daniel Alves was sentenced, the Court decided that the athlete has 1.2 million euros (R$6.45 million) to receive from the Spanish Tax Authorities. The athlete had taken legal action to the Spanish Federal Revenue for disagreeing with the taxation of the amounts charged for the intermediation services of agent Joaquín Macanás, at the time of renewing his contract with Barcelona between 2013 and 2014. According to his lawyers, the agent acted on behalf of the club and not his. And now, the court has ruled in favor of the player.
This is not the only case in which Daniel Alves has achieved victory over the Spanish tax authorities. In November, when he was already in preventive detention for the crime of sexual assault, the Spanish Treasury had been ordered to pay 3.4 million euros (R$18.27 million), which had been charged unduly.
