Vanessa da Mata revealed that she was scared by the public’s reaction to her song “Boa Sorte”, released in 2007, in an interview with presenter Foquinha’s podcast, which aired on YouTube on Friday (29). Due to the lyrics, the song was sent by countless spouses to their respective partners, as a form of break-up. “I thought I was going to get beaten up on the street. It felt like a chase, people were singing next to me in the mall,” she said. The hit, in partnership with Ben Harper, was the most played in Brazil in 2008 according to Crowley Broadcast Analysis, a Brazilian radio analysis company.

The singer also recalled an unusual episode in Portugal: “I was eating with my manager, and a Portuguese woman appeared, crying, with her ex-husband on her cell phone, telling me ‘Talk to him. He broke up because of your lyrics. If you talk, he’ll come back'”.

Vanessa herself has a similar story to the lyrics she wrote, as the lyrics were written based on her relationship with her ex-husband. “(Music) is a great way out, wonderful. It helped a lot of women to give up; at the time they didn’t, there was that pressure of ‘I need to be with someone, I need to have someone, I can’t be alone'”, she highlighted.

She also commented on some people’s lack of understanding when using music. “Because I have a sweet, very feminine voice, I think people don’t pay attention to the lyrics. There are people who got married to the sound of ‘it’s over, there’s no other way, good luck’. I mean, it’s starting to end, right? ?”.
