After several months of speculation and conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton’s disappearance from the spotlight, the Princess of Wales moved the world by releasing a videotaped message in which she confessed to undergoing chemotherapy treatments to treat cancer diagnosed in January. , following abdominal surgery.

During this phase, Kate Middleton will continue to stay away from official commitments and seek refuge, together with Prince William and their three children, in Anmer Hall, the family’s country home. The retreat, located near Sandringham, was initially planned as the first home for the couple, who received the property as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II in 2011.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have always had a special affection for Anmer Hall, but the three-hour journey to London made it difficult for the couple to stay and, in 2014, they decided to move to Kensington Palace.

The story of Anmer Hall

To learn about Anmer Hall’s past, it is necessary to go back to the 18th century, when the Coldham family lived on the property, around 1705. Almost two centuries later, it became part of the royal family’s property.

In 1862, Queen Victoria purchased the grounds of Sandringham House as a wedding gift for the future Edward VII. The house is less than five kilometers from Sandringham, one of the favorite holiday retreats of the late Queen Elizabeth II who, in 2013, decided to use it as a residence for Prince William and Kate Middleton, having undergone renovation work.

Currently, the property has 10 rooms divided into two floors and a red brick facade with a semicircular porch over two columns. The exterior renovation works were designed to provide greater privacy, which proved to be very useful during this period of greater seclusion.
