The interpreter of the younger version of Furiosa preferred not to consult Charlize Theron during filming
Despite living the younger version of Furious Empress in the movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Sagaactress Anya Taylor-Joy chose not to consult Charlize Theron, who plays the figure in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), in preparation for the derivative.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Anya stated that she preferred to follow her own path in the film, but that, after filming ended, she spoke to Theron about the role.
“You have to go on your own journey with this.”Anya Taylor-Joy told EW. “But as soon as the film was finished, I got in touch with her [Charlize Theron] because I’m a big fan – not only of her as an actress, but also as a person. And she’s as wonderful and cool as you could imagine, and she was very supportive, so I liked that.”
Charlize Theron played Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, a character that was derived from Anya Taylor-Joy.
Taylor-Joy completed her statement by saying she felt a responsibility to “tell the story of the person in this script”which is why he chose not to rely so much on the original.
With direction from George Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will tell the origin story of the titular character before the events of Fury Road. The production also features the return of villain Immortan Joe and the addition of Chris Hemsworth as Dementusa new antagonist who promises to make Furiosa’s life difficult.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga debut on the day May 23 at the movies.
