‘We did not detect irregularities’, says INSS after Fernanda Montenegro was declared dead by the institution

Furthermore, the institution was ordered to pay compensation for moral damages in the initial amount of R$30,000, but an appeal reduced the punishment to R$10,000. However, to date, no amount has been deposited into the theater’s first lady’s account.

“The benefits (retirement and death pension) of actress Fernanda Montenegro were terminated by the INSS in 2019 due to the lack of proof of life. At the time, the procedure was still required of policyholders. Since 2023, proof of life has been carried out by crossing policyholder data with the government’s registration information, mainly biometric. Until the end of this year, no payment suspensions will be carried out.

With confirmation of the actress’ proof of life, the INSS reactivated the benefits and ordered the payment of retroactive payments. The actress, however, claimed that she did not withdraw the amounts for the period in which she did not receive her retirement and pension.

Upon the complaint, the INSS carried out an internal investigation and did not detect any irregularities. The institute then contacted the Federal Police (PF) to open an investigation to investigate the case. The investigation has been running in secret since 2022.
