Ruben Aguiar was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for running over a man, in April 2023, outside a gas station, in Alcochete.
This Sunday, April 27th, the Madeiran singer broke his silence on social media: “I showed my regret and apologized to the victim several times in court. (…) I inform everyone that yes, I will appeal“, he began by writing.
“The victim said at trial that he was already turned away and on the sidewalk when I allegedly attacked him in false faith and this does not correspond to what the video conveys, nor to what happened. I have never attacked anyone, much less behind their back. I was coming in peace, when I was approached by the victim, hugging and shouting in the middle of the road, I tried to move forward, going around the man, but he punched the hood of my car, stopping me from getting out of the car. I was tired from a few hours of sleep and a 3-hour car journey and I was scared”, added Ruben Aguiar.
“There is indeed a victim, which is not me and as I said in court, I am willing to assume all the costs, to help this gentleman who is in much better health“, he concluded.
