According to information from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), wind, sea agitation and snowfall are expected for the next 48 hours (north of the country).

Taking into account the forecasts, Civil Protection issued an alert to the population leaving some recommendations and precautions to be taken.

The forecast points to wind, at times strong, more intense on the west coast and in the highlands, with gusts of up to 95km/h as well as strong sea agitation on the west coast and snowfall forecast in the northern and central highlands above 1400/1600 meters during the night and early morning of the 2nd, descending to 700/900 meters in the afternoon.

The District of Beja is under yellow warning due to sea unrest due to the forecast of 4 to 5 meter northwest waves, as announced by IPMA.

The warning comes into force at 6am on March 2nd, Saturday, and remains in effect until 12pm on Sunday.

Taking into account the forecasts, Civil Protection warns about the adoption of appropriate behavior, therefore, and particularly in historically more vulnerable areas, it is recommended to adopt the main preventive measures for these situations, namely: Paying attention to the most vulnerable groups, ensure adequate fixation of loose structures, namely scaffolding, billboards and other suspended structures.

ANEPC also states that you must be especially careful when traveling and staying near wooded areas, paying attention to the possibility of falling branches and trees, due to stronger winds, as well as being careful when traveling near the coastline and riverside areas. historically more vulnerable to coastal overtopping, preventing movement and permanence in these locations.

Sea-related activities should not be practiced, namely sport fishing, water sports and walks along the seafront, and avoid parking vehicles too close to the seafront. Defensive driving must also be adopted, reducing speed and paying special attention to any accumulation of snow and/or formation of ice or frost on roadways and avoiding driving on roads affected by snow accumulation.
