Daniel Radcliffe responds to JK Rowling: “I really feel sad when I think about the person I knew and the books she wrote”

Daniel Radcliffe, known for playing “Harry Potter” in the cinema, responded to JK Rowling, the author of the young wizard’s books, arguing that he does not owe her support.

The statements, made in an interview with “The Atlantic” magazine, come after the writer said that she would not accept the apology from Radcliffe, nor from Emma Watson, another protagonist of the films, for the support they give to trans people – remember that Rowling has made several transphobic comments over the last few years.

“Obviously ‘Harry Potter’ wouldn’t have happened without her, so probably nothing in my life would have happened the way it did without that person,” the actor begins in the new interview, “but that doesn’t mean you owe things you truly believe in to someone for the rest of your life.”

Radcliffe also adds that he feels disillusioned with Rowling: “I feel very sad thinking about the person I knew, the times we met, the books she wrote and the world she created – all of this, for me, is deeply empathetic”.

The first time the actor spoke out against Rowling’s transphobic views was in 2020: “although Jo is responsible for the direction my life has taken, as a human being I feel compelled to say something: trans women are women” .
