The night the Met Gala staircase turns into fashion’s flower garden | Fashion

All the spotlights are now pointed at the treadmill stretched out on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York. Celebrities are already parading at fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala (or as some call it, the Fashion Oscars). O dress code asks guests to dress for The Garden of Time (The Garden of Time), at the opening of the new Costume Institute exhibition.

Many flowers are expected, in an “ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion”, predicted curator Andrew Bolton. But it is also an opportunity for fashion house archives to take to the streets, in allusion to the exhibition’s theme Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion (Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening fashionin free translation), which features 50 of the most fragile pieces in the history of fashion, including dresses made by Christian Dior, Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent or Hubert de Givenchy.

For now, it remains a mystery who the evening’s guests are, with the only certainty being that the red carpet will feature co-hosts — actors Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez and Chris Hemsworth and the rapper Puerto Rican Bad Bunny —, as well as organizer Anna Wintour.

The global director of Vogue She was the first to inaugurate the staircase with a dress designed by Jonathan Anderson for Loewe, full of flowers. The creator is one of the co-hosts of the night, alongside Shou Zi Chew, CEO of Tik Tok, the company that sponsors not only the dance, but also the exhibition.

Despite the media coverage of the “party of the year” — what the Met Gala was called in 1948, when the first edition took place —, the goal remains to raise funds for the Costume Institute. This year, says the magazine Teameach individual entry costs 75 thousand dollars (around 69 thousand euros) and it is also possible to reserve an entire table for 350 thousand dollars (325 thousand euros).

Last year, with an exhibition dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld, the event raised 22 million dollars (around 20 million euros). Normally, celebrities do not pay a ticket, but are invited by fashion brands, who take the opportunity to promote their most eccentric creations. That’s the expectation for tonight.
