Pedro Penim, artistic director of Teatro Dona Maria, has been going through a challenging professional phase since 2021. However, also in the personal sector, the actor and director lives happy days.

From its common relationship with Mark Lowena BBC journalist, with whom he has been with for around six years, the two are parents of Amália, which is already a year old. The child was conceived through surrogacy.

In a recent interview with the magazine FACESPenim spoke again about the challenges of parenthoodas well as the ‘barriers overcome’ with the revelation of his homosexuality.

When considering that Amália’s birth was a project “thoughtful but desired“, the director says: “It was a radical transformation in my life. (…) I think it’s a revolution. Having a child is truly revolutionary“, took on.

And yes, she is wonderful. It’s very beautiful to see a child grow and all the effort involved in education, of thinking about how to educate a child, because they don’t come with a book of instructions… Therefore, there is an empirical side that is also quite important and that has gone very well“, he confesses.

And regarding her husband’s support, as well as publicly revealing their love relationship, Pedro Penim clarifies: “This role gave me more exposure, of course, but for me it was always a very natural subject. (…) I always knew who I was and that I was very well resolved in this matter.“.

“(…) And this doesn’t mean that I love talking about my personal life, but I feel like it’s actually a mission too“, he concluded.
