Lavras begins application of Permethrin to combat Aedes Aegypti

-

The Government of Lavras, through the Municipal Health Department, began this Thursday, the 14th, the application of Permethrin in homes in the city’s neighborhoods. The action aims to combat the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue, zika and chikungunya.

The Arbovirus Surveillance team is traveling the streets and applying the product inside properties. Permethrin is a residual insecticide that acts on contact, eliminating adult mosquitoes that bite during the day.

Difference between Permethrin and Costal UBV (Fumacê)

Unlike Costal UBV, known as fumigation, where the product is applied in the backyard of houses with the windows open, Permethrin is applied inside properties and the windows need to be closed for at least half an hour after application. This ensures that the mosquito does not escape outside.

It is important to highlight that the application of Permethrin and UBV Costal is only carried out on streets and properties that present suspected or confirmed cases of dengue.

The Municipal Government reinforces the importance of the population’s collaboration in the fight against dengue. It is essential that everyone eliminate mosquito breeding sites, such as stagnant water in containers, old tires and clogged gutters. Lavras City Hall counts on everyone’s help to eliminate Aedes Aegypti and prevent the spread of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
