Public Civil Action seeks solutions for the lack of water supply in the São José neighborhood

The Public Ministry of Amazonas (MPAM), through the prosecutor’s office of the district of Itamarati, filed a Public Civil Action (ACP), yesterday, against the municipality of Itamarati, the State of Amazonas and the Amazonas Sanitation Company (Cosama ), to determine the lack of regular water supply in the São José neighborhood, given that residents do not have running water or sanitary sewage.

The action highlights the failure of the competent authorities to provide essential water and basic sanitation services to the neighborhood’s citizens.

“Our action seeks to resolve this problem and guarantee basic rights for residents. We count on everyone’s collaboration to achieve justice and dignity for this community”, stated prosecutor Caio Lúcio Fenelon Assis Barros.

Among the measures required by MPAM, the request for immediate actions from the parties involved stands out, including the granting of advance relief so that the municipality of Itamarati, the State of Amazonas and Cosama present a water distribution plan in the São Paulo neighborhood. José, under penalty of a personal daily fine to the mayor and director of the Company of not less than R$ 10,000.00 (ten thousand reais), within a period of 15 (fifteen) days, as authorized by article 12 of Law no. 7,347/85, in addition to the declaration of reversal of the burden of proof in defense of affected consumers and the carrying out of expert examinations to support the case.
