Fiotec is a supporter of a project that is actually a “manifesto against oblivion”. The initiative Living Memory, led by researcher Marcia Lenzi, will honor victims of Covid-19 on panels installed on the main wall of the Maré Campus and in the Maré favela complex. The project is part of a memorial that will keep alive the memories and struggles of so many lives lost during the pandemic.

The initiative is working on the production of two 150m² panels, with around 6,500 tiles each. The pieces are being produced by the Fiocruz community and residents of Maré. At the beginning of April, the Campus Maré classes began, participating in weekly meetings in room 1,007 of the Headquarters Building, on Mondays or Wednesdays, at two times: in the morning and during the lunch break. On the 22nd, workshops began at Campus Manguinhos, at Estação Asfoc-SN, also on Mondays or Wednesdays, at two times.

> Registration still can be made using the online form.

You don’t need to know how to draw, nor have previous experience with tiles to participate in the workshops and leave your contribution. All materials and guidance necessary for the production of the works will be provided and participants will also watch a presentation about the Azulejaria studio, a partner of Fiocruz and Redes da Maré in executing the project.

The tiles are illustrated with markers, brushes and special paints, which do not stain clothes. Participants can draw, write messages, record the names of loved ones or whatever else they want. Later, the pieces are taken to be “fired” in a ceramic kiln, which guarantees the stability of the colors and designs.
