Jorge Virgílio Rodrigues Mealha da Costa, architect and university professor, was today elected to the position of president of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon.

After the public hearing of the electoral program of the candidates for the position, the School Council chose Professor Jorge Mealha for the term of office that will run from 2024-2026.

Jorge Mealha has a degree in Architecture [1987] and teaching architectural design since 1991.

He developed building projects with different programs, and of different scales, in Portugal and Spain. All over the world, his projects have been published in printed and digital architecture publications.

His work has been highlighted since 1989, being selected for several exhibitions, namely “Habitar Portugal 09-11”, “Habitar Portugal 12-14”, “Mostra de Arquitectura Ibérica LaMipa/Beijing Design Week 2014, as well as traveling exhibitions”. Architects@Work 2015-16″ and “Architecture in a Rural Context – Projects and Works in the Viseu Region”.

He was awarded the German Design Award 2017, the Iconic Architecture Award 2015, the Architizer A+ Award 2015 and the National Real Estate Award 2016 [edifícios de escritórios]. He was also nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2015 and selected for the Premis FAD de Arquitectura Ibérica 2015. He was a finalist for the Construir Prize 2012 [Reabilitação] and Construir Award 2015 [Edifício Público].
