Dengue vaccination resumes for children and adolescents aged 10 to 14

João Pessoa City Hall resumes this Monday (6), vaccination against dengue for children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 who need to start the vaccination schedule with the first dose of the vaccine. The campaign began on February 19th and, for those who started the program on that day, they will be able to complete the vaccination schedule with the second dose from May 18th. In João Pessoa, 17,123 doses have already been administered, which represents 31.41% of the population eligible for vaccination.

Protection with the Qdenga vaccine is achieved with two doses, with an interval of 90 days between them. The vaccine is safe, and the administration of the vaccine was approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

“We received new doses and in the technical recommendation, prevention is initially aimed at dose 1 for children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 years. Therefore, we call on parents and guardians to take their children to a health service and guarantee this protection”, highlighted Fernando Virgolino, coordinator of the Immunization Section of João Pessoa.

During this period of high temperatures and recurrent rain, it is important to maintain continuous surveillance in homes and public environments. “Let’s take extra care in our homes and avoid throwing trash in public places. The accumulation of water in exposed containers can create ideal conditions for the reproduction of Aedes aegypti, the vector that transmits dengue. Therefore, let’s stay vigilant and alert to avoid possible mosquito outbreaks”, added the coordinator.

Dengue protection – The vaccine is currently being recommended for children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 years, with a regimen consisting of two doses, with an interval of three months between doses. If the user has contact with the disease before the vaccine, it is recommended to wait six months before starting the vaccination schedule with the dengue vaccine (attenuated). If the infection occurs after the start of the regimen, there is no change in the interval between D1 and D2, as long as D2 is not performed less than 30 days after the onset of the disease.

In health services mobile points, in addition to updating the vaccination record, with routine doses, the vaccine that protects against Influenza is also available, expanded to the entire population from six months of age.

Documentation – For vaccination, it is important to present an official document with a photo or registration of the child or adolescent, the SUS Card and the vaccination card or booklet.

Home Vaccination – For people who are bedridden and restricted to bed. It is necessary to make an appointment by calling (83) 98645-7727. Vaccines are available at homes, from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
