Main objective is the integration of urban and rural areas of the city into current legislation

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Itamarati, in Amazonas, took an important step towards territorial organization and the legalization of properties with the establishment of the first Administrative Procedure (PA) to monitor and inspect land regularization in the municipality. This unprecedented milestone, in the interior of Amazonas, aims to integrate urban and rural areas into current legislation, guaranteeing fundamental rights to residents and promoting safer and more planned land occupation.

The procedure was introduced in response to the growing challenges encountered in the region, which include the occupation of risk areas and the lack of official documentation on the part of many residents. “We are facing a reality in which many families live in precarious conditions and without properly established legal security”, explained the prosecutor, Caio Lúcio Fenelon Assis Barros. “With this procedure, we intend not only to legalize housing situations, but also to promote territorial occupation in a sustainable and orderly manner”, he added.

The initiative is aligned with national land regularization efforts, as established by Law No. 13,465/2017, and comes in the wake of important provisions from the National Inspectorate of Justice, which recently mobilized specific programs for regularization in areas such as the Legal Amazon, favelas and irregular settlements across the country. Regularization in Itamarati ranges from document verification and the environmental and urban planning suitability of properties to the integration of housing, basic sanitation and urban mobility policies.

The expectation is that the procedure will bring extensive benefits not only to the local population, but also to the city’s urban planning. The measure aims to reduce the risks associated with natural disasters, such as flooding and landslides, which are frequent in irregularly occupied areas.

With the officialization of this procedure, Itamarati is at the forefront of land regularization in the interior of Amazonas on the initiative of the Public Ministry, establishing a precedent for other districts to face similar problems. The continuous monitoring and rigorous inspection promised by the Public Ministry aims to ensure that the law is applied fairly and effectively, providing a more stable and promising future for the region.
