After the big victory at the Festival da Canção with “Grito”, here are Iolanda’s real chances at Eurovision 2024.
And so 60 years have passed since the first edition of the Festival da Canção, still called the Portuguese Song TV Grand Prix. After Mimicat represented Portugal last year in Liverpool, with “Ai Coração”, it is Iolanda’s turn to give everything with her “Grito” in Malmo, Sweden.
The 2024 Song Festival had a very eclectic set of finalists, but there could only be one winner. It was a close fight between Iolanda and João Borsch, but the singer got the better of the Jury’s vote, which was decisive in her victory. A well-deserved victory thanks to a performance that makes the Portuguese dream of a great place in Eurovision.
An incredible voice, an attention-grabbing performance and lyrics that remain memorable, Iolanda has everything it takes to achieve an excellent classification at Eurovision. There is still just over a month to go until the first Eurovision 2024 Semi-Final, but bookmakers have already started predicting the potential winners. These are Portugal and Iolanda’s chances at Eurovision 2024. Will it match Salvador Sobral’s result in 2017?
THE POTENTIAL WINNER?
Eurovision 2024 takes place between the 7th and 11th of May, but the specialized website Eurovision World has already brought together all the betting house trends – and the situation does not seem very favorable for Portugal. Most bookmakers place Iolanda in 33rd positionjust ahead of Luxembourg, Moldova, Czechia and San Marino.
So far the potential big winner is the song “Rim Tim Tagi Dim“, by Croatian singer Baby Lasagna, with a 20% chance of winning. Followed by “La Noia“, by Angelina Mango, the representative of Italy, and “Teresa & Mari”’, by alyona alyona and Jerry Heil, the representatives of Ukraine, both with a 12% chance.
EUROVISION STARTS IN MAY
The host country’s song is far from winning – “Unforgettable”, by Marcus and Martinus, which only has a 2% chance of winning. Iolanda plays in the first Semifinal scheduled for May 7thwhere there will also be representatives from Croatia, Cyprus, Republic of Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Australia, Azerbaijan, Finland, Iceland, Luxembourg, Moldova and Slovenia.
Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom are already guaranteed their presence in the final.
