Former SEF inspectors convicted of the death of Ihor Homeniuk were entitled to a three-day precarious departure – Portugal

The former inspectors of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) convicted of the death of Ihor Homeniuk, a Ukrainian citizen, on the premises of the extinct Foreigners and Borders Service at Lisbon airport, left this Friday in precarious prison for the next three days.

The precarious license, the first granted to the three convicts, was granted to them to spend Easter at home. A CMTV exclusively captured the departure of former inspectors from Évora prison who are forced to return late Sunday afternoon.

Bruno Sousa was the only one to come out with his face uncovered and speak to the CM. “We will talk later, when appropriate,” she said.

The decision was taken simultaneously for all three by the sentence execution magistrate of the Évora Court – the judicial body that assesses requests for precarious release and conditional release.

Luís Silva, Bruno Sousa and Duarte Laja were sentenced to nine years in prison for serious, aggravated physical injury. In August, they presented themselves to Évora prison to serve the almost six years they have left, after having been under house arrest since 2020.

According to the Public Ministry’s accusation in the first case, Ihor Homeniuk died of slow asphyxiation, after attacks with kicks and sticks perpetrated by inspectors, which caused the Ukrainian citizen to fracture eight ribs. Furthermore, they left him handcuffed with his hands behind his back and face down, with difficulty breathing for a long time, which caused cardiorespiratory arrest.
