New streaming data from Spotify suggests that Dutch artist Joost, with his pop song, “Europapa”, could be the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest – garnering the highest number of streams on the platform worldwide. In second place, for the second year running, is the Italian participation, which this year is represented by singer and songwriter Angelina Mango, with the song “La Noia”, and the Swedish dance-pop duo from the host country Marcus & Martinus, with “Unforgettable” is in third place.

The scenario in Portugal is similar, although the national participant, Iolanda, with “Grito”, occupies first place among local streams, followed by Italy and the Netherlands. The Portuguese song is currently in 31st position among the most listened to songs on Spotify worldwide. After Portugal, the countries that listen to Iolanda’s song the most are Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

Streams of Eurovision Song Contest winners have grown by more than 900% on Spotify in the last decade

Following Swedish pop phenomenon Loreen’s triumphant victory at last year’s Eurovision, the artist has been catapulted to international stardom, with streams across her entire discography increasing by more than 600% since May 2023, demonstrating that there is more to gain than what a Eurovision prize for contestants.

In fact, through analyzing data from Eurovision Song Contest winners over the last decade, on average, artists’ streams increased by more than 900% following their winning performance. For example, Salvador Sobral, the Portuguese candidate in 2017, recorded an impressive 1793% increase in global streams following his Eurovision win, demonstrating how the audio platform helps fuel discovery and connect artists and fans.
