Samsung may implement a triple camera set on the Galaxy Z Flip in a possible future generation of the foldable, at least that is what new patent records indicate that also describe versions of the device with larger external screens.

Discovered by the Dutch website GalaxyClub, a Samsung patent document describes a foldable smartphone in flip format with a triple main camera and two design options for the external panel.

Both have a module with three photographic sensors and LED flash aligned vertically in a positioning identical to that implemented in the Galaxy S24 (review), indicating the use of a main lens, ultrawide lens and telephoto lens.

The first of the two options stands out for the use of an external screen with a height greater than its width, resulting in a vertical display that contrasts with the current horizontal external screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The second version stands out for offering an edge-to-edge square display with cutouts for each rear camera within the panel itself.

Despite the more complex manufacturing, the last option is similar to the design strategy solution of the Razr 40 UItra (review), which offers a dual camera and LED flash housed in circular cutouts on the external screen.

There are no guarantees as to when (or if) Samsung plans to adopt visual changes to the Galaxy Z Flip’s outer cover, but we know that the new design should not be included with the next generation that debuts this year.

Scheduled to launch in June, the new Galaxy Z Flip 6 will have a slightly larger external screen and a straighter body than the current version according to reliable leaks.

Therefore, it is possible that Samsung’s patents could describe future versions of Samsung’s foldable like the Galaxy Z Flip 7 or even Z Flip 8.

However, it is worth remembering that patents do not always express the manufacturer’s intention to present smartphones identical to those that appear in the documents, being just a way of ensuring that they can use the technology in the future, if desired.
