Passos declares a public health emergency due to dengue cases
Passos City Hall (MG) declared a public health emergency due to the escalation of dengue cases. The decree has been in force since Friday (15) and lasts for at least 180 days, with the possibility of being extended.
According to data from the epidemiological bulletin from the State Department of Health (SES-MG), Passos has 1,983 confirmed records. This week, the South of Minas reached more than 24 thousand confirmed cases of dengue in 2024, an increase of 34.6% compared to the previous week.
The current number of probable dengue cases and serious cases led the municipality to create the decree with the public health emergency situation.
Municipal management considered other points such as the high rate of mosquito larvae infestation, the increase in visits to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) and the increase in the spread of the disease due to the climate.
With the document, it is authorized, if necessary, to call on volunteers to carry out actions and awareness campaigns with the aim of facilitating the fight against mosquitoes.
The decree also includes the creation of educational campaigns, broad and early visits to public and private properties, mainly in areas with potential transmission hotspots.
In addition, the city council also ordered the cleaning of vacant lots when a situation is characterized by abandonment, in addition to the collection of furniture, cars and scrap metal, and the forced entry into properties, businesses and industries, in the case of abandonment or absence of people who could allow the entry of the public agent.
