The State Department of Health of Minas Gerais is investigating seven deaths in Governador Valadares, suspected arboviruses. The data comes from the agency’s case monitoring panel.

From January to March, the municipality has confirmed more than 6 thousand cases of arboviruses, 3,722 of which were dengue, 2,484 were chikungunya and one was zika virus.

Of the seven deaths that are under investigation, five are due to dengue and two are due to chikungunya.

In the case of dengue, the incidence among women is higher in the age group of 20 and 29 years. For men, the highest records are in children aged 1 to 9 years.

When it comes to chikungunya, the incidence among women is higher in the 40 to 49 age group. In men, the age is 20 to 29 years.

The incidence rate of probable cases of dengue and chikungunya per 100 thousand inhabitants already exceeds 500, being considered very high.

The numbers reported by Governador Valadares city hall do not match the numbers provided by SES-MG. In a note to g1the city’s Municipal Health Department reported that, so far, there is suspicion of three deaths from dengue and three deaths from chikungunya in the municipality.

The note also says that all the victims are residents of Governador Valadares and that the cases are in the investigation process, awaiting results from the state reference laboratory in Belo Horizonte (FUNED).
