With two more deaths from dengue in RS, the state reaches 47 victims in the year | Rio Grande do Sul

Rio Grande do Sul reached, this Thursday (28), the mark of 47 dengue victims in 2024. They were two more deaths confirmed by the State Department of Health (SES).

The two deaths occurred in the Northern Region of the state. In Frederico Westphalen, a 71-year-old man died on March 21st. The elderly man had a pre-existing illness.

The other death occurred in the neighboring city of Vista Alegre, on March 26. The victim is a 93-year-old woman, also with comorbidity.

RS is the state with the highest dengue fatality rate in Brazil

So far, they are 34.4 thousand confirmed cases of the disease in the state only this year. In the same period, in 2023, Rio Grande do Sul had 6 thousand cases of dengue.

Seeking care at the beginning of feelings of physical discomfort is a way to prevent worsening of the disease and possible progression to death. SES indicates the use of repellent also for individual protection against Aedes aegypti.

Measures to prevent the proliferation and circulation of the insect, by cleaning and reviewing the internal and external areas of homes or apartments, prevent the mosquito from being born, cutting the life cycle in the aquatic phase.
