O Increased risk of hypertension begins in childhood. This is the conclusion of a study from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, which will be presented at the European Congress on Obesity, which will take place next May in Italy.

“Our results suggest that prevention against obesity and overweight should start in childhood in order to have healthy blood pressure later on”, says Lina Lilja, one of the study’s authors.

High blood pressure can lead to problems such as heart attacks, kidney damage, stroke and even cardiovascular conditions. Controlling a child’s weight is about protecting them from hypertension years later, they point out.

The research analyzed data from more than 1,600 men and women born between 1948 and 1968.
