With the aim of intensifying the fight against Aedes aegypti, endemic agents continue to inspect homes, warehouses, vacant lots and commercial establishments to look for mosquito outbreaks. Since the last bulletin, released on April 2, the city has recorded 88 cases of the disease and one death. The accumulated total since the first week of 2024 is 18,272 probable cases. Of these, 15,054 are under investigation, 3,218 have been confirmed and six deaths have been recorded. There are 15 people admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 41 in the ward.
It is worth remembering that probable cases are all reported, suspected, confirmed and inconclusive cases, with the exception of those discarded. In this way, all suspected cases that are in the system will be considered probable. This allows for a more accurate analysis of the situation.
Regarding outbreaks, Epidemiological Surveillance changes weekly.
Signs and symptoms
The first manifestation of dengue is high fever (39° to 40°C) with an abrupt onset, lasting two to seven days, associated with headache, weakness, pain in the body, joints and back of the eyes. Spots on the body are present in 50% of cases, and can affect the face, trunk, arms and legs. Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting may also be present.
Dengue care center
To guarantee care for all patients and assist in the reception of health units and as a backup for hospitals, the Dengue Care Center (CAD) was created in Blumenau. Until this Sunday, the 31st, more than 5,060 consultations were carried out at the site, which received improvements and now has a comfortable and restricted space for infusions. There are 60 seats available to the population who need to stay more than 5 hours at the Center for the administration of intravenous and subcutaneous medications.
Both the CAD and the infusion space are located on Furb’s Campus 3, at Rua São Paulo, 2,171. The working hours of the multidisciplinary team of 20 people – made up of doctors, nurses and nursing technicians – take place in an open door format, seven days a week, including holidays, with extended hours from 7am to midnight.
How to prevent the proliferation of Aedes aegypti
• Eliminate standing water from all containers;
• Avoid using dishes in potted plants. If using them, add sand to the brim;
• Store bottles with the neck facing down;
• Keep trash bins covered;
• Always leave water tanks sealed, without any openings, especially water tanks;
• Plants such as bromeliads should be avoided, as they accumulate water;
• Treat the pool water with chlorine and clean it once a week;
• Keep drains covered with fine mesh screens to prevent mosquitoes from gaining access to the area;
• Wash containers with water tanks, such as animal food and water bowls, with a brush or sponge and detergent, at least once a week;
• If it is necessary for the container to contain water, as in the case of drains, use hypochlorite;
• Remove water accumulated on slabs;
• Flush toilets, at least once a week, in rarely used bathrooms;
• Keep the toilet lid closed;
• Avoid accumulating rubbish, as this can become a breeding ground for the Dengue mosquito.
