The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has increased in circulation in Brazil in the last eight weeks. As a result, the number of cases and mortality of children up to two years of age due to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome increased, surpassing the lethal cases caused by Covid-19 in this age group.ebc.gif?id=1592672&o=node

The alert comes from Fiocruz, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, which released the information in last Thursday’s Infogripe bulletin.

RSV is responsible for almost 60% of all recent cases of syndrome caused by respiratory viruses among children. Among the elderly, Covid-19 is the main factor in mortality due to respiratory syndromes.

In order for the population to protect themselves, InfoGripe coordinator, Marcelo Gomes, highlights the importance of vaccination, to avoid contracting the flu and the complications of the disease. Marcelo Gomes also draws attention to the use of protective masks, for people who have flu or cold symptoms, or who go to a health unit.

According to the latest update on cases, according to the Infogripe bulletin, almost all Brazilian states and the Federal District are showing an increase in the respiratory syndrome. Only four states are not in this situation: Amapá, Espírito Santo, Piauí and Roraima.
