Autochthonous cases are worrying, because they mean that the mosquito with the disease has arrived in the municipality. And, as a result, more people are at risk of becoming infected.

According to the Department of Health, Laguna has 15 confirmed cases of the disease, from people infected in other cities. Another 19 probable cases are under investigation.

The Dengue Combat Program reported that Laguna registered a new outbreak of the mosquito Aedes Aegypti, last week. In total, there are seven outbreaks, four in Bairro Progresso and, now, three in the town of Cabeçuda.

Trap

Upon detecting the presence of mosquitoes, the team replaces the trap on site and carries out an inspection of properties within a radius of 300 meters from the identified location.

“This trap is monitored every 7 days. After two months, we carried out an inspection again within a 300-meter radius of the site”, explains the coordinator of the municipal program, Matiê Rossini.

Rossini also highlights that it is important to reinforce with the residents of these neighborhoods the importance of receiving visits from endemic disease agents.

“It is important that the population receives the Endemic Disease Agent. It is worth remembering that these property-by-property inspections do not cover the entire neighborhood, but within a 300-meter radius of the location where the outbreaks are recorded.”

Routine work is already carried out weekly on traps distributed across different locations in the municipality.

Surveillance inspections are also carried out, every fortnight, at strategic points in the city, where places/containers with water accumulation are checked, such as cemeteries, tire repair shops, scrapyards, as they are strategic points. When the presence of larvae is identified, they are collected for identification.

Residents can help fight dengue

The active work of the population is essential to help combat dengue.

“The population must pay attention to their properties, eliminating any container that can accumulate water, check whether the water tank is well covered, whether the gutter is unobstructed, the collapsible swimming pools contain clean/treated water, if not, empty them. completely and store in a covered place. The mosquito is circulating, we have to stay alert”, reinforced the coordinator.

The municipal program team to combat dengue has received many complaints regarding land with an accumulation of garbage and debris. “So the population also needs to be aware of this, keeping their land clean and properly disposing of waste”, he warns.

How to report

Reports can be made in person with the Dengue Combat Program sector at the Department of Health, and can be scheduled by calling the department at 3644-0313 or via the City Hall’s ombudsman channels.

Shark

In the neighboring city of Tubarão, the largest municipality in the Laguna region, the majority of dengue cases recorded are from people who contracted the disease within the municipality itself.

The teams from the Center for Combating Endemic Diseases of the Municipal Health Emergency Operations Center (Coems) and Tubarão Epidemiological Surveillance have so far registered 37 cases in total, compared to 27 last week. Of these, 16 were contracted outside the city and 21 within the municipality. Another 66 cases are currently under investigation.

The outbreaks have also increased: there are 173 at the moment. The majority, 54, are in the workshop neighborhood, the most populous in the municipality. The location is considered infested. And last week it received an unprecedented job of spraying against mosquitoes.
