Research published in PLOS Genetics highlighted the possible benefits of kombucha in reducing the accumulation of body fat.

Conducted by researchers at the University of North Carolina, in the United States, the study used C. nematode worms as a model to investigate the effects of the drink on metabolism.

The results showed that the probiotic microbes present in kombucha colonized the worms’ intestines, triggering metabolic changes that resemble the effects of fasting.

Among the changes were:

  • Decrease in fat reserves
  • Reduced triglyceride levels
  • Smaller lipid droplets

Researchers believe that the probiotic microbes present in the drink may play a key role in regulating fat metabolism.

Nutritionist Patricia Leite, in a video for her YouTube channel, addressed the benefits and potential risks associated with kombucha consumption.

Patricia highlighted that the fermented drink has several benefits, including liver detoxification capacity, providing adequate energy, strengthening the immune system and improving joint health.

However, the nutritionist warned of the possible risks associated with preparing kombucha at home, highlighting the possibility of contamination by harmful microorganisms, such as aspergillus and candida.

It is extremely important to carefully follow the preparation and hygiene guidelines, in addition to only consuming the drink from reliable and industrialized sources.

How to consume Kombucha?

The nutritionist addressed some people’s sensitivity to kombucha, recommending that beginners start with small amounts and observe the body’s response.

Patricia also warns that it is not recommended to drink the drink in excess, emphasizing moderation as the key to enjoying the benefits without taking risks to your health.
