The city of Artur Nogueira confirmed the first death from dengue in 2024. According to the Health Department, the fatal victim of the disease is a child of just 11 years old. This news had already been reported by Portal Nogueirense. The boy died on March 14 and was confirmed after an examination at the Adolfo Lutz Institute. He was a student at Apae in the city.

Dengue numbers in the city
According to data from the Department of Health, in February 2024, there were 236 notifications of dengue, with 110 confirmations. In March, it rose to 447 notifications, with 206 confirmed, an 87% increase in positive cases.
Dengue cases have seen a huge increase across the country and this has been reflected in Artur Nogueira. For comparison purposes, throughout 2023, the municipality recorded 58 cases of dengue. In January 2024, that number was 27.
Municipal Administration Actions
In a note, the City Hall highlighted that it has taken several actions to combat the increase in dengue cases in the city:
- Telemedicine:
- Remote medical care for suspected or confirmed cases of dengue, ensuring quick access to assistance.
- Exclusive Ward at the Municipal Hospital:
- A specific wing was designated at the Municipal Hospital to offer faster care to dengue patients.
- Expansion of Service at UBS Terezinha Vicensotti:
- The Basic Health Unit is offering expanded care with doctors and health teams to assist suspected and confirmed cases of dengue.
- Mutirões in Neighborhoods and Use of Smoking Cars:
- Cleaning efforts are being carried out in the neighborhoods, while the smoke car is being used to apply insecticide in the streets.
“VISA emphasizes the importance of the population’s collaboration to eliminate possible breeding sites for the Aedes Aegypti mosquito and requests active participation in preventive actions. To intensify these measures, the team is providing guidance on dengue fever for students in the Municipal Education Network. Through playful and didactic approaches, children are learning about the symptoms of the disease and how to prevent it.”
Deaths in the region
The regions of Campinas and Piracicaba already have more than 40 deaths from dengue in this epidemic, which is already considered the largest in recent times.
