With an architectural project signed by the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and a stunning garden designed by landscaper Vladimir Djurovicthe new Gulbenkian Modern Art Center (CAM) is scheduled to open in September this year.

The new building, inspired by the Japanese concept of Engawa, redefines the relationship between interior and exterior, creating fluid and inviting spaces. The transparency towards the south and the addition of a long visor, inspired by this concept, not only increase the luminosity of the space, but also establish a harmonious connection with the new surrounding garden. Designed based on the vision of Portuguese architects Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles and António Viana Barreto, it is an invitation to contemplation and relaxation, providing a green haven in the heart of the city.

This initiative not only highlights the importance of Leonor Antunes’ work, but also takes a critical look at the representation of women in the history of art.
