QAnyone with allergies suffers (a lot) during the spring and summer months. Unfortunately, in addition to the most obvious, there are other factors that can significantly worsen symptoms. Sara Kayat, a doctor, quoted in Mirror, explains that some very common objects have this uncomfortable effect.
Generally, “home should be a comforting space, but for people with allergies it can be a cause of allergic rhinitis”, causing “symptoms such as sneezing, itching and congestion, capable of disrupting daily life, affecting the ability to breathe”

Among the examples of items that cause this reaction, the doctor included air fresheners (and candles) with strong fragrances, some indoor plants with flowers and even children’s soft toys. Regarding the last example, the doctor explains that “dust mites develop in hot and dusty places, such as soft toys, pillows and mattresses”.
Furthermore, it mentions that pet hair easily starts to accumulate on carpets, rugs and bedding, meaning unexpected places can be problematic. You can (and should) consult the complete list.
Things that many have at home that aggravate seasonal allergies:
- Fresh flowers;
- Perfumes;
- air fresheners;
- Cleaning products;
- aromatic herbs and condiments;
- Pets;
- Indoor plants;
- Candles;
- Old books;
- Incense.
