The State Department of Health (Sesa) confirmed this Monday (29) the emergency activation of 14 clinical beds at the Campos Gerais Regional University Hospital, in Ponta Grossa, for dengue patients. The beds will be available over the next few months, in order to optimize the flow and care capacity in the region. They were installed in the unit’s Emergency Care space, allowing constant hydration of patients.

“As part of epidemiological monitoring in the State, we have registered an increase in cases in Campos Gerais, especially in recent weeks. Therefore, we took this decision, announced in partnership with UEPG, to reinforce the hospital structure in Ponta Grossa”, stated the secretary State of Health, Beto Preto.

“Naturally, we continue with the appeal to raise awareness among the entire population so that they become an active part in the fight against dengue. The elimination of mosquito outbreaks plays a central role in this fight”, he added.

According to the administrative director of the HUs, Simonei Bonatto, this opening is a way of working together with the 3rd Regional Health network. “The beds will be intended for the care of patients who have a more moderate condition, who require intravenous hydration. They will be regulated exclusively by the Center and only for confirmed cases of the disease, previously treated in the UPAs,” she said.

The rector of UEPG, Miguel Sanches Neto, highlighted the importance of the measure in the quality of care offered, stating that they are expansion beds, which mainly aim to provide comfort for people who are suffering from dengue. “Patients will not receive treatment in chairs, but in new beds, in an area that is being expanded for care within the HU”, he highlighted.

The latest dengue bulletin released by the State Department of Health (Sesa), on Tuesday (23) last week, counts 260,517 confirmed cases in Paraná and 171 deaths from the disease in this epidemiological period, which began on July 30, 2023 and continues until July 2024.
