The structure of the State Hospital for Children and Adolescents (Hecad) allowed the surgery to separate the conjoined twins Heloá and Valentina in January of this year

The State Department of Health of the State of Goiás (SES-GO) signed this Wednesday (12/04), the contract with the Association of Management, Innovation and Health Results (Agir) for the administration of the State Children’s Hospital and Adolescent (Hecad) for another four years, in the global amount of R$615 million for managing the unit for 48 months. The Social Organization has been the manager of the unit since 2022, on an emergency basis, and continues to lead the hospital for having fulfilled the stages of the regular call, in accordance with the legislation.

“Having a Social Organization committed to providing a quality service to patients is fundamental in a unit as important as Hecad, which performs medium and high complexity surgeries in several specialties and is consolidated in Brazil as a reference in the care of children and teenagers. This hospital is a great achievement for the health of the people of Goiás”, says the head of SES-GO, Sérgio Vencio.

Currently, Hecad has 116 infirmary beds and 30 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds. Since its inauguration in 2022, 134 thousand consultations have been performed, more than 6 thousand surgeries, 325 thousand exams, 13 thousand hospitalizations and more than 64 thousand specialized medical consultations. In addition, the unit also has an outpatient clinic for 15 pediatric medical specialties.

The most recent highlight at the hospital was the surgery to separate conjoined twins Heloá and Valentina. The girls were connected by part of the thorax, abdomen, pelvis, liver, genitals, small and large intestines. The separation took place in January of this year and the sisters continue to be monitored once a month by Hecad’s multidisciplinary team.

Mônica Costa, general director of Hecad, also highlights the hospital’s commitment to zeroing out the surgery queue for cleft lip correction and the pediatric surgeries campaign carried out in 2022. “We are dedicated to providing an excellent service. We continue to fulfill our role and act beyond our capacity, assisting patients with a low complexity profile who arrive at Hecad, seeking care that is the responsibility of Primary Health Care”, points out the general director.

The undersecretary of Surveillance and Comprehensive Health Care, Luciano de Moura, adds that SES-GO is already working with the municipal health departments of the Metropolitan Region of Goiânia so that Hecad can make the counter-reference of patients who are outside the hospital profile. “We are discussing a plan with the SMSs so that people who seek low-complexity care at Hecad can be properly attended to in the basic health units closest to their homes so that the hospital staff can dedicate themselves to serious cases, which is their specialty. “, ends.
