“Rosacea is a condition that can significantly affect the quality of life of people who live with it. It is important to be aware of the symptoms and triggering factors to seek appropriate treatment and improve the quality of life of patients”, highlights the president of the Society Brazilian Society of Dermatology – Rio Grande do Sul Section (SBD-RS), Rosemarie Mazzuco.

Symptoms can range from persistent redness to visible blood vessels, red bumps and/or pus-filled balls, a burning sensation, swelling and stinging skin. It occurs mainly in adults between 30 and 50 years old. It is more common in women, but affects many men and, in them, the condition tends to be more serious, often progressing to rhinophyma (gradual enlargement of the nose due to thickening and dilation of the follicles).

“It is essential that patients are aware of the factors that can trigger or worsen rosacea, so they can adopt measures to prevent and control the disease. Specialized medical monitoring is essential for an accurate diagnosis and an adequate treatment plan”, adds Mazzuco.

SBD-RS reinforces the importance of seeking specialized medical advice when observing any symptoms related to rosacea. Despite being a condition that has no cure, it can be treated and a substantial improvement in the patient’s quality of life is possible with an appropriate plan. Qualified professionals can be found on the official website of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology – Rio Grande do Sul Section (SBD-RS) at www.sbdrs.org.br.
