Two more deaths due to dengue were confirmed in Baixada Santista. According to the State Department of Health (SES), the last fatal cases occurred in São Vicente and Itanhaém. As a result, the region totals nine deaths from the disease in 2024.

According to the São Vicente Health Department (Sesau), a 38-year-old resident of the municipality died from dengue fever on April 9. She was hospitalized at Santa Casa de Santos, and was diagnosed with type 1 dengue fever through a serological test.

Confirmation of the death, the first recorded in the municipality in 2024, was released by the State Department of Health (SES). Additionally, another suspected dengue death is under investigation.

In case of symptoms, the person should look for the nearest health unit after the 6th day of dengue symptoms (high fever and immediate onset, moderate joint pain) to collect the test.

In Itanhaém, a 49-year-old woman died in the municipality’s Emergency Care Unit (UPA) on March 17. According to the municipal administration, the victim was not transferred to hospitalization at that time.

After death was certified, the victim’s body was sent to the Death Verification Service (SVO), where the positive diagnosis for type 1 dengue fever was confirmed through tests.

According to SES, Baixada Santista recorded more than 10,225 thousand cases of the disease, in addition to 4,852 thousand suspected cases in this year. Still according to the ministry, there are 9 confirmed deaths from the disease in the region and others 17 suspicionswho are awaiting confirmation of the exams.

The first confirmed death from dengue in Baixada Santista was in Peruíbe. The victim, a 77-year-old man, died on February 25. According to city hall, the man reported having had dengue symptoms four days after returning from a trip from Bahia — an endemic region.

Two men, aged 59 and 65, died after contracting the disease in Guarujá, in February. The municipality’s Health Department highlighted that the 65-year-old victim was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

In Itanhaém, on March 13, a 36-year-old woman died after contracting type 1 dengue. She was admitted to the Jorge Rossmann Regional Hospital (HRJR), but did not survive. The exam results were announced on April 2.

The 5th death in the region was recorded in Bertioga. The victim, a 60-year-old man, was the first fatal record of the disease in the municipality in 2024. The patient’s death occurred on March 28, after being admitted to the Municipal Hospital.

In Cubatão (SP), a 1-year-old boy died from dengue fever on March 14. The death occurred during treatment at the Children’s Emergency Room (PSI), after a rapid evolution of the clinical condition. The death, the first in the municipality, was confirmed on April 6.

A 49-year-old woman died from dengue fever in Itanhaém, on April 3. The victim died at home one day after being released from the Emergency Care Unit (UPA). This was the second death confirmed from the disease in the municipality in 2024.
