A heat wave hits seven Brazilian states, including Paraná. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), temperatures are expected to remain high in the coming days, with trends of 5 degrees above the average for the period.

The institute issued a danger alert for several Brazilian cities, including ArapongasLondrina, Alvorada do Sul, Assaí, Bela Vista do Paraíso, Cambé, Centenário do Sul, Florestópolis, Guaraci, Ibiporã, Jaguapitã, Jataizinho, Lupionópolis, Miraselva, Pitangueiras, Porecatu, Porto Rico, Prado Ferreira, Primeiro de Maio, Rancho Alegre , Rolândia, Sabáudia, Sertaneja, Sertanópolis and Uraí.

According to the alert, temperatures above average can pose a health risk.

Dangers of heat

When the environment becomes very hot, such as a situation of excessive heat, this causes thermal stress in the body, which begins to have difficulty maintaining this stable temperature.

This can cause harm to health and even pose a threat to life, especially in the elderly, children and people with chronic illnesses.

Care during the heat

Find out how to protect yourself from the risks of excessive heat:

Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty;

Avoid carrying out physical activities outdoors during the hottest periods of the day (lunchtime, for example);

If the day is very hot, avoid training or only exercise in air-conditioned environments;

Wear light, light clothing that allows perspiration;

If possible, wear few items of clothing and light fabrics;

If exposed to the sun, use sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF);

Stay in cool, ventilated places;

If you are hot, take a cold shower;

Avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeine, as they can increase dehydration;

Maintain a healthy diet, with light and fresh foods, such as fruits, vegetables and legumes.
