Blumenau starts vaccination against dengue next Monday, the 6th

-

Blumenau will receive, between Thursday and Friday, May 2nd and 3rd, 5,057 doses of the dengue vaccine (Qdenga). At this first moment, the application of the vaccine to the target audience, which are children and adolescents aged 10 to 14, begins next Monday, the 6th. To receive the vaccine, simply look for one of the General Family Outpatient Clinics (AGFs Centro, Garcia, Velha, Itoupava, Escola Agrícola, Badenfurt and Fortaleza). During the week, Family Health Strategies (ESFs) with active vaccination rooms will also be supplied with doses of the vaccine.

The dengue vaccine is administered in a two-dose schedule with an interval of three months between them, and aims to reduce hospitalizations and deaths from the disease.

The vice mayor, Maria Regina de Souza Soar, celebrates the arrival of the doses to the municipality. “It is an important milestone for our community and demonstrates the health authorities’ recognition of the need to protect our population against this serious disease. We are committed to ensuring access to vaccination and continuing to promote dengue prevention measures in our municipality.”

For the Secretary of Health Promotion, Jaqueline Mocelin, starting the application of the dengue vaccine in Blumenau is a significant step in protecting the municipality’s public health. “In addition to working on prevention, we can now provide Blumenau residents with greater security regarding the spread of the disease. We ask that the target audience look for health units with an active vaccination room and look for the vaccine.”

Recommendations
Vaccines with inactive viruses, such as influenza, can be administered from 24 hours after vaccination against dengue;

Vaccines with attenuated viruses, such as MMR and yellow fever, can be administered 30 days after vaccination against dengue;

In cases of dengue virus infection, it is recommended to wait 6 months before starting the vaccination schedule with the dengue vaccine (attenuated).

Anaphylaxis or hypersensitivity reaction to the active substance or any excipient listed in the “vaccine composition” section or to a previous dose of that vaccine;

Individuals with congenital or acquired immunodeficiency, including those receiving immunosuppressive therapies such as chemotherapy or high doses of systemic corticosteroids within four weeks prior to vaccination, as with other live attenuated vaccines;

Individuals with symptomatic HIV infection or asymptomatic HIV infection when accompanied by evidence of compromised immune function.

Criteria for choosing municipalities
The municipality was chosen based on the criteria informed by the Ministry of Health (MS) in the Operational Technical Report of the Dengue Vaccination Strategy in 2024.

“Large municipalities (population greater than or equal to 100 thousand inhabitants) with high dengue transmission in the last 10 years, including other municipalities in their health regions covered, regardless of size were selected to receive doses of the vaccine. population, ordered by the predominance of the DENV-2 serotype (recent reemergence) and by the highest number of cases in monitoring 2023/2024 (SE-27/2023 to SE-02/2024).
