The Jardim Vista Alegre region, in the Ouro Verde district, in Campinas, will host this Saturday (4), starting at 8 am, the 14th joint effort to prevent and combat dengue fever this year. The action will include visits to properties in order to eliminate breeding sites for the mosquito that vectors the disease and will involve agents, volunteers and workers from the outsourced company Impacto Controle de Pests. The meeting point will be at the Integrated Educational Center (CEI) Helena Novaes Rodrigues, located on Avenida Sinimbu.

The municipality currently has 73 thousand cases of the disease, 16 deaths and three imported cases of chikungunya. The information comes from the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel of the Municipal Health Department. In this stage, eight neighborhoods will be covered. In addition to Jardim Vista Alegre itself, Viracopos University Park, Jardim Maria Helena, Recanto do Sol 1 and 2, Jardim Mercedes, Jardim Shangai and Núcleo União da Vitória will be visited.

The City Hall will repeat the strategy, used in other editions of the task force, of using drones to locate large mosquito breeding sites, such as swimming pools and water tanks in properties identified as unoccupied or abandoned. In fact, according to a court decision from the 1st Public Finance Court of Campinas, if a property is found unoccupied or abandoned, the City Hall can call a locksmith and force it to open. In each action, almost half of the spaces are not accessed by agents because they are closed, unoccupied or because residents are unable to do so.

According to statistics from the municipal and state health departments, 80% of breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito are in homes, so it is important to eliminate any space with water that could be used by the insect for proliferation.

The task force, which is multisectoral, has the support of professionals from the departments of Public Services, Housing, Education, Social Assistance and Labor and Income, in addition to the Guard, Civil Defense, Sanasa and Emdec. The balance of shares should be released this Monday, the 6th.

The dengue epidemic led Campinas to declare an emergency on March 7th. All regions of the city are on alert for the risk of transmitting the disease.

The best way to prevent dengue fever is to eliminate any accumulation of water that could serve as a breeding ground, especially in cans, tires, plant dishes, slabs and gutters. It is also important to seal the water tank and keep unused toilets closed.

A study by the Municipal Health Department showed that, during 2023, Campinas would experience a new dengue epidemic, with a projection of at least 100 thousand cases of the disease in 2024.

The City Hall has already carried out 13 joint efforts this year, including a regional one. At least 53 thousand homes were visited by agents. The aim is to guide the population and remove mosquito breeding sites.

Pest Control Impact

Workers from the outsourced company Impacto Controle de Pests, who work on visits to properties, wear a uniform consisting of a white t-shirt, with the company logo, and gray pants. In case of doubts about identification, the population can request information by calling 199, from the Civil Defense.
