SC records four more cases of oropouche fever, a disease transmitted by maruim

-

The city of Brusque, in the Itajaí Valley, confirmed four cases of oropouche fever this Saturday (04). According to the municipality’s Health Department, the cases occurred in residents of the neighborhoods: Limeira, São Pedro, Dom Joaquim and Bateas. City Hall also stated that all those affected are well and are continuing with recovery procedures.

Oropouche fever

The disease is caused by an arbovirus and is transmitted mainly by mosquitoes, the main one being the maruim.

The symptoms of Oropouche fever are very similar to those of dengue, such as body pain, headache, nausea and diarrhea. There is still no specific treatment to treat the disease.

In case of symptoms, the patient must seek a Basic Health Unit (UBS) to be able to carry out tests and identify the disease.

Cases in Santa Catarina

In total in the state, 10 cases of the disease were confirmed, four in Brusque, five in the neighboring city, Botuverá, and one more in Luiz Alves.

According to the State Health Department, a series of complementary actions in the locations will be developed by the Municipal Health Departments in conjunction with the State and the Ministry of Health, such as systematizing information on suspected and confirmed cases (movements, symptoms, clinical picture, etc.), collecting vectors for entomological surveys and forwarding samples from other patients for testing by the Santa Catarina Central Public Health Laboratory, with the aim of strengthening disease surveillance.
