Hecad celebrates 10,000 surgeries performed with a play for children in hospital

Goiás Government Unit is a reference in highly complex procedures, such as separation of Siamese twins and rehabilitation of cleft lip and palate

This week, the State Hospital for Children and Adolescents (Hecad) reached the milestone of 10 thousand pediatric surgeries performed. The celebration includes a theatrical presentation to entertain children in hospital and recognition actions for employees who work in the surgical center of the Government of Goiás unit.

“Hecad has only been inaugurated for two years and such impressive numbers attest to the imperative need for a highly complex institution entirely focused on child health care,” said general director, Mônica Costa. “There were more than 10,000 surgeries in various pediatric medical specialties that contributed to the recovery of thousands of children and to reducing the waiting time for little ones waiting for surgery in the state,” said the doctor.

The list of surgical procedures performed by Hecad includes 230 different types of pediatric surgeries, with emphasis on the areas of pediatric urology, pediatric orthopedics, pediatric otorhinolaryngology, pediatric general surgery and pediatric plastic surgery. The unit is a reference in highly complex procedures, such as separation of Siamese twins, rehabilitation of cleft lip and palate, reconstruction of intestinal transit in children and treatment of malformations of the urinary system.

“The celebration will feature a theater performance for children in hospital, contributing to fun, entertainment, children’s well-being and democratizing access to art and culture, since most of our patients never had the opportunity to go to the theater”, said Mônica Costa.

Humanization
All stages of the surgery are designed to bring more comfort and well-being to the little ones. The child can travel from the induction room to the operating room on an electric cart, and the post-anesthesia recovery room has lighting that simulates a starry sky. Hecad also offers aromatherapy at the time of sedation: the patient can choose the smell they like most, such as fruit aroma or gum, for anesthesia.

According to Aline Faria, Brenno Faria’s grandmother, who underwent three surgeries at Hecad, the humanization of care is a differentiator that delights. “Brenno is undergoing long-term treatment and whenever he goes to the Surgical Center we realize the importance of fully dedicated care for the child. The approach, the affection, the presence of playful elements and specialized professionals make all the difference,” she said.
