The 2,400 doses that arrived are being distributed and from this Tuesday, 7th, they will be available in the units according to the schedule

The arrival of a new shipment of the dengue vaccine came with news. The 2,400 doses received will be destined for children and adolescents aged between six and 16 years old. The vaccines have already started to be distributed at health centers and from this Tuesday, 7th, they will be available to the target audience defined by the Ministry of Health.

It is possible to receive the dengue vaccine in eight extended-hour units, which administer the vaccine until 9pm from Monday to Friday. For those who have greater flexibility in their schedule, the vaccine is also offered in 13 units from 7:30 am to 4 pm. Flying stations were also set up in eight units that do not have a vaccination room, with service starting at 9am. In other clinics, vaccination takes place on specific days of the week.

The municipal secretary of Health, Mirlene Garcia, emphasizes that it is extremely important that parents and guardians become aware of the benefits of immunization. “Vaccination against dengue fever reduces the risk of symptomatic infection, hospitalizations and morbidity and mortality from the disease and serves as an important ally in the fight against the virus.” It is important to highlight that the child must carry the vaccination card and identification document.

It is worth remembering that dengue is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes and has been a public health concern, causing serious illnesses and even deaths in more extreme cases.

The vaccine is made from the attenuated dengue virus. This means that it uses a live microorganism, but it is very weakened to the point that it cannot cause the disease. To complete the vaccination schedule, it is necessary to administer two doses of the vaccine, with an interval of three months between them. “The overall effectiveness is 80.2% after 30 days of the two-dose regimen, while the effectiveness against forms that require hospitalization is 90.4%”, says Mirlene Garcia.

The dengue vaccine, Qdenga, the first immunizer against dengue, protects people from the action of four serotypes of the virus: DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4. However, the secretary emphasizes that the vaccine is contraindicated for people with severe allergies to any of the vaccine’s components, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, people with immunodeficiency and patients with HIV.

The City Hall reinforces that, even with the arrival of the vaccine, the population’s participation in vaccination continues to be crucial, as prevention is the key to ending the impacts of dengue. Continuous efforts, such as the elimination of mosquito breeding sites and adherence to the awareness campaign, continue to be implemented to complement the disease control strategy.
