Representative Jamil Calife (PP), through bill No. 9268/24, proposes the amendment of Law No. 17,062, of June 22, 2010, which established the State Week for Awareness and Prevention of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV ). The proposed change consists of the addition of the D-Day of Vaccination against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), to be set on October 9th.

HPV is a virus that affects men and women and is transmitted through sexual intercourse. In the justification of the matter, the parliamentarian explains that vaccination is the best way to prevent contamination by the virus and its consequences, which can be serious, such as cervical cancer, for example.

“Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the importance of vaccination against HPV or do not have access to information and health services to receive the vaccine. Therefore, it is important to promote a specific date to raise awareness of the population on the subject and encourage vaccination”, he highlighted.

Calife emphasizes that the recommendation is that vaccination occurs before the start of sexual life, so that men and women are protected from the virus from the first time they have sex and do not transmit it to their partners.

According to the Ministry of Health, HPV is associated with the development of almost all cervical cancer, as well as several other tumors in men and women. In addition, it causes anogenital warts (genital region and anus).

Finally, the institution of the D-day of Vaccination against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is an important measure to raise awareness among the population about the importance of applying the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer and other problems caused by the virus.
